Ask them of every company you look at, and compare the answers. On the right of each one is how you would check it without taking our word for anything.
No. It is a membership that gets you access to rates providers have already agreed to. There is no policy, no cover and no payout, and nobody pays a provider on your behalf.
If a company answers this one vaguely, stop there. It is the question the whole category gets wrong on purpose.
The Customer Disclosure page states it in full, in plain terms, including who administers the program.
Because it is not doing the same job. Insurance prices risk — it takes on the chance of something expensive happening to you. This takes on nothing.
You are paying for access to a negotiated price list. That is a far smaller thing to sell, so it costs far less to buy.
Ask what happens if you have a $40,000 hospital stay. The honest answer here is that you get a discount on it, not that it is paid.
You have to use it. The membership costs the same in a month you never take the card out as in a month you use it four times.
The second catch is the network. The discount exists at participating providers, so if the pharmacy or dentist you like is not in one, the card does nothing for you there.
Before joining, ask whether your own providers are in the network. If they are not, that answer should change your decision.
Sometimes. 10–85% means some items save 10%. The eighty-five is real and so is the ten, and which one you get depends on the item, the provider and where you live.
Any program quoting you a single headline percentage is quoting its best case. We publish the spans instead, per category.
The What’s Covered page lists every category with its full range, and says so plainly where no range is published.
You cancel, in any month, on any term including the annual. No early termination fee and no retention script.
Committing to a year buys a lower rate. It does not buy us the right to keep you.
Open the support orb in the corner of any page and ask to cancel. Watch how many steps it takes before somebody tries to talk you out of it.
The honest answer: the program content is broadly comparable across this category. The networks are large and often the same ones.
What differs is how it gets sold. We publish the ranges rather than the headline, publish the states where it does not work, and say no to households the math does not suit. That is the whole argument, and it is checkable on this site rather than a claim about our values.
Every page here names a limit. Count how many of our competitors’ pages do the same, and decide on that.
If you see any of these on a competitor’s page, you now know what to ask next.
Save up to 85% on your healthcare!True of one category at its very best, printed as though it applied to everything.
Everyone qualifies — no exceptions! Not true anywhere. We cannot enroll anyone in Utah, Iowa or Washington, and we say so on the home page.
Limited time offer — enroll today! There is no season and no deadline. Urgency in this category is manufactured.
It’s like insurance, but cheaper. It is not like insurance. It is a different product that does a different job, and the sentence exists to blur that.
Every plan on every term, with the yearly arithmetic worked out, on the Plans page. Nothing is quoted only on a call.
The three states we cannot serve, the four where lab testing is excluded, and every category with no published range.
The two orbs in the corner of every page answer questions at any hour, and neither needs a phone number before it will help.
Then tell us what you spend on and which state you are in, and we will tell you whether a plan pays for itself — or that it doesn’t.
